The Hyundai Entourage is a minivan sold by Hyundai Motor Company in the North American market beginning with the 2007 model year. It is based on the Kia Sedona, now in its second generation. The Entourage was cancelled in August 2005, but resurrected in October without affecting its introduction date. The production Entourage was shown at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2006. The Entourage went on sale in April 2006.
The Entourage is powered by the same 3.8 L Lambda V6 that powers the Azera luxury sedan but with output reduced from 265 to 242 hp. It seats seven people with optional equipment ranging from automatic climate control, leather seating, power sliding doors and tailgate, reverse sensors, and a six-disc in-dash CD changer. Unlike the Sedona, which will add a short-wheelbase version for 2007, the Entourage will be available in extended-length only. However, Hyundai will not add a short-wheelbase Entourage because of the upcoming arrival of the mid-size Hyundai Veracruz crossover SUV, which measures about the same length as the short-wheelbase Sedona.
Space for people -- a key factor for a minivan -- is superb. Front head, leg, shoulder and hip room exceeds the space in Chrysler's top-of-the-line Town and Country model. The seven-passenger Entourage also provides more head, leg and shoulder room in the second row than its Chrysler Group competition. There's even room for adults in the third row, with more leg and hip room than a Grand Caravan -- plus more than 900 litres of cargo space behind the back row, even with the seats up.The 60/40 split rear bench easily folds flat into the floor with a simple operation you can perform with one hand while holding bags of groceries in the other.
If you really need cargo space, the second-row captain's chairs (which are truly comfortable, with good padding and full cushions and seatbacks) will flip and tumble -- or can easily be removed. If you do have to lift those seats out, Hyundai engineers have added a nifty feature -- casters on the bottom of the seat frame so you can roll the chairs into the garage.Fully cleared out, the flat-floor cargo space totals more than 4,000 litres -- more than the Pontiac Montana or Ford Freestar.
The primary cargo in a minivan, however, is people and that makes safety features essential in the minds of most shoppers. You can't get better protection in a minivan than the Entourage provides. Six air bags are standard across the lineup -- dual front-impact units for the front-seat passengers, front seat-mounted air bags for side-impact protection, plus dual side curtains that drop to protect all three rows of seating. The front seats also have active headrests to protect against whiplash injuries.Four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS and electonic brake distribution is standard across the board, while traction control and an electronic stability system is included in the GLS and GLS Premium models.
